Seeking more volunteers for geomorphology assessments!

Announcements

Summer potluck… with the Carpool Challenge…

Please join us for some summer fun!

When: Saturday 8/23, 10am – 2pm
Where: Walnut Creek Park
What to bring: food and drink to share (no alcohol), chair or blanket
What to do: Eat, Play, Swim, Mountain Bike, Hike, Play Frisbee Golf, Fish (with valid license), Paddle (bring your canoe or rent one for $5/hour).
Carpool Challenge: Arrive at the potluck with more than two people in the car, and everyone in the car receives a prize!
Directions: From Cville, take Route 29 South; Turn left onto Route 708 (Red Hill Road); Turn right onto Route 631 (Old Lynchburg Road); The park is 1/2 mile on the left.
NOTE – there is a park entrance fee: $3/person for Albemarle county residents, $4.50/person for non-residents, Albemarle county seniors (over 62) are free.

Summer certification…

Congrats to Tana Herndon, who became a certified monitor this summer!

Geomorphology assessments…

We still have some geomorphology to do. We take various measurements of the stream, which help us to characterize the channel and understand sediment loads. Each assessment takes 2-3 hours. See the dates below.

Fall Monitoring Season…

The fall season will begin on 9/1. All sites must be sampled before 11/15. Please contact Rose if you will not be able to get to your site, or if you need helpers. Thanks!
