Fall sampling…

Bob’s Bug Facts…
(brought to you by Bob Henricks)
The larvae of many aquatic insects (stoneflies, mayflies, caddisflies, midges) drift downstream at night, especially during the summer. Actively feeding under cover of darkness, larvae may be swept off in currents. This drifting might also be a natural way for insects to spread out in a stream. This explains why female adult mayflies and caddisflies often fly upstream to deposit their eggs – they’re returning to their native waters.
Thank you for volunteering with StreamWatch!
