Important Update about the Fall Monitoring Season…
We’ve changed the date for fall monitoring:
Certified Monitors: please sample your sites after 10/1. This will allow the bug communities in the previously dry streams to re-populate. All sites must be sampled before 11/15. Contact Rose if you have any questions, if you will not be able to sample your site, or if you need helpers. Thanks!
If you want to help with fall sampling, keep an eye on the Weekly Update… we’ll be sampling a few sites starting on 9/15.
Info about Ticks & Hunting Seasons…
Do you ever find yourself wondering about ticks or hunting seasons? If so, scroll to the bottom of the volunteer page for plenty of information.
Revised Sampling Instructions…
For some light reading, please check out the revised sampling instructions on the website. The instructions have not changed, but the document is now easier to understand (we hope!)

StreamWatch Introductory Training Workshop…
Do you know someone who would like to become a StreamWatch volunteer? Are you already a volunteer, and you want to refresh your memory?
StreamWatch is hosting a volunteer stream monitor training workshop on Saturday, October 11, from 10am until 4pm in Charlottesville. The session will cover the fundamentals of stream biological sampling – catching and identifying aquatic invertebrates for the purpose of evaluating water quality and stream health. The training is free, but class size is limited. To reserve a space, or for further information about becoming a StreamWatch volunteer, contact Rose.
